Mohd Fairuz flexes his muscles to win title

22 JANUARY 2010 - Stowage clerk Mohd Fairuz Mohd Said emerged as the champion in the inaugural Mr Westports Body Beautiful competition held at the Westsports Auditorium in Port Klang recently.

Mohd Fairuz presented his symmetrical, aesthetic physique to beat 13 other contestants to win RM500, voucher worth RM1,000, a medal, trophy and other prizes.

In second place was Gate clerk Khairul Akhmal Husin while Mohd Hazli Che Nawi of Port Police was third. Khairul won RM300 and Mohd Hazli took home RM200.

Khairul Azhar Zakaria finished fourth and Zulfan Habibi Dasri was fifth.

The competition was organised by Westports Gym. Participants had to go through two rounds of individual and group posing. After the preliminary rounds where participants were required to flex five compulsory poses, five qualified for the final round.

Before the competition, all participants had to go through a six-month intensive training programme at the gym. The gym's physical instructors had drawn up a programme for the participants who had to maintain a diet and health programme.

Following the success of the programme and competition, Westports Gym are looking forward to organise the event annually.

They will also initiate an awareness and promotion programme to encourage more employees to be part of the event.

Westports executive director Ruben Emir Gnanalingam said the competition was organised in line with efforts by the port to promote a healthy workforce.

"The participants showed their commitment by going through the intensive training programme. Based on the quality of the participants, we are confident our bodybuilders are capable of flexing their muscles at a higher level of competition," added Ruben.
