The Star, 15 Mar 2010 - CSCL to bring more volume to Westports

PORT KLANG: China Shipping Container Lines Co Ltd (CSCL) is expected to contribute more volume to Westports this year.

CSCL, a division of China Shipping Group, is currently the second largest customer at the port after French Liner CMA CGM.

Last year, Westports handled some 552,000 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) for CSCL, including the group’s feeder liner – Puhai Shipping.

CSCL has assured that it will continue to make Westports its mega transshipment hub in South-East Asia.

China Shipping vice-president Ma Zehua said Westports had given excellent service.

Westports executive director Ruben Gnanalingam said the port had been constantly improving the productivity rate on CSCL vessels.

“CSCL has not only grown in terms of volume, but also in terms of vessel sizes as more and more mega-sized vessels are making regular calls at Westports,” he said in a statement.

Westports recorded a new gross vessel productivity record of 263 moves per hour that was achieved while working on the 9,600 TEU Xin Beijing, a China Shipping vessel.
