The Star, 5 Apr 2010 - Nexus now biggest car carrier firm in Malaysia

PORT KLANG: Nexus Mega Carriers Sdn Bhd will add five more car carriers this month to bring its fleet of car carriers to 93, making it the largest car carrier provider in the country.

A subsidiary of Giga Maritime Group, Nexus also manages 30 motorcycle carriers as well as other services like forwarding and custom agents for the automotive importers and exporters.

Chief operating officer Shahriman Hasan said Nexus’ expansion was vital following an anticipated 3% to 5% industrial growth forecast.

“Last year, Nexus lifted a total of 28,603 loads nationwide, compared with 28,991 in 2008 and 24,000 in 2007,” he said in a statement.

Shahriman said Nexus had many initiatives that would be implemented this year to ensure that its land transport operation meets the desired standards and quality.

“Our business is transporting cars and we want to ensure that we deliver quality and with zero defect.

“With the anticipated increase in loads this year, we want to educate and work together with the logistics chain on the targets that we have set,” he said.

Meanwhile, Giga Car Terminal (GCT) chief operating officer Captain Hairi Ho said the terminal currently operated two yards within Westports, totaling 23 acres, with a combined capacity for 4,725 cars.

With its own WiFi network within Westports, GCT is able to scan and track all vehicle movements in real-time for the most updated information at any given time.
