Port Klang, 5th August 2010: Westports Malaysia, Port Klang’s leading terminal, had just surpassed 500,000 TEUs on July 30 when Executive Chairman Tan Sri G. Gnanalingam greeted 150 golfers and friends at the Westports Open Golf tournament dinner and prize presentation held at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Golf Club (KGSAAS) in Shah Alam.
“I stand here to thank you for your support in enabling Westports surpass its monthly volume of 500,000 TEUs for the first time in its history. I was informed that the port achieved the feat a short while ago and it would not have been possible if not for the belief, trust and support from all of you here,” said Tan Sri Gnanalingam.
It was a moment of joy and celebrations, as it marked a historic moment not just for Westports, but also for all present. It turned out to be a ‘high scoring’ day, both on the course and at the port.
A total of 124 ardent golfers from the shipping fraternity, including Chief Executives and Directors of Shipping Lines from abroad teed-off on a fine afternoon at the picturesque KGSAAS.

On the golf course, it was obvious that both, veterans and rookies alike, enjoyed themselves aiming for pars, birdies, eagles, novelty prizes, the "hole-in-one" and the 15 main prizes. However, there were no-takers for the ace prizes of two Rolex watches worth RM120,000 each. During the dinner reception, they were given an exhilarating presentation by Tan Sri Gnanalingam and were also introduced to Westports e-Terminal Plus, an enhanced version of the current e-Terminal, Westport’s customer portal.
Meanwhile, Choi Sung Khar, formerly of APL, emerged winner of the tournament. The 11-handicapper posted the highest ‘Stableford’ points of 39 to edge Sean Chok of Wan Hai Shipping Line, who finished on 38 points. In third place was Abdul Aziz Toha of APL on 37 points. All the top three winners received a trophy each together with golf goodies.
