| The maiden
call of (Marine Tanker) MT 'Samar
Spirit' marks another historic
moment for Westport as it inaugurates
the bunkering operations offered
by ChevronTexaco's Fuel and
Marine Marketing (FAMM) at Westport
Bunkering Services (WEBS) terminal
The vessel, of
240 meters LOA. is expected
to discharge 60,000 metric tons
of High Sulphur Fuel Oil for
bunkering to ships calling Port
Klang and its landed clients.
WEBS
- First to Offer Bunkering In
Malaysia
The WEBS Terminal,
which started operating in mid
1997, was the first to offer
bunkering facilities in Malaysia.
The terminal stretches over
2 berths and has a handling
capacity of 2.4 million metric
tons per year.
FAMM is a worldwide
business of ChevronTexaco who
is reputed for their global
residual fuel and marine lubricants
marketing business. They have
22 offices around the world
and are a leading supplier of
marine fuels, lubricants, coolants
and industrial fuels. FAMM supplies
more than 700 ports worldwide
with lubricants and more than
250 ports with fuel.
Tan Sri Gnanalingam,
Executive Chairman of Kelang
Multi Terminal said it was an
ideal alliance placing Westport
in a cutting edge position to
offer value added bunkering
services and savings to the
vessel operators calling Port
Klang. This, he added, further
enhances the terminal's transshipment
hub status in the region.
A
Win-Win Partnership Facility
Earlier this
year a lease agreement was signed
between FAMM-Indah and Westport
Bunkering Services (WEBS). The
win-win partnership facility
will play a vital role in its
overall bunkering strategy for
Singapore and Malaysia. FAMM-Indah,
formed in April 2001, is a joint
venture between FAMM and the
Malaysia based Coral-Indah.
FAMM-Indah will assume operational
control of the terminal.
Engineering works
are underway to upgrade the
200,000 metric ton (mt) facility,
which includes installing additional
blending and pumping capability
to the terminal and is scheduled
for completion in the first
quarter 2003
