Westport became
the only port service and one
of the youngest brands to receive
recognition as a Superbrand;
joining an honour roll of some
80 Malaysian and foreign brands
at a prestigious award presentation
ceremony on 9 May 2002.
The port was
awarded Superbrand status by
the Malaysian Superbrands Council
based on a set selection criteria
of market dominance, longevity,
goodwill, customer loyalty,
and overall market acceptance.
Its rise as a
Superbrand since its inception
in 1994 can be attributed to
the leading role it plays in
raising public awareness and
changing customer perceptions
of Malaysian ports
The Superbrand
award is the latest in a long
list of achievements garnered
by Westport. The port holds
the distinction of being the
first Malaysian port to achieve
1.0 million TEUs in 365 days.
It was recognized at the Asian
Freight Industry Awards as a
Top 10 Container Terminal in
1998 (9th position) and again
in 1999 (6th position). Westport
was also nominated for the Best
Emerging Terminal by Lloyd's
List Maritime Awards for two
consecutive years. In the year
2000, Westport was awarded the
FIABCI Award of Distinction
for Best Public Sector Development.
In the year 2000, the groundbreaking
"Westport-Port of The New Millennium"
television commercial took the
Silver at the International
Film and Video Festival in Chicago
Westport is Malaysia's
first integrated port with dedicated
terminals to handle a variety
of cargo from containers and
vehicles, to bulk cargo like
break bulk, dry bulk and liquid
bulk. Fastport Services in place
ensure zero waiting time for
berths, customs clearance, and
fast turnaround times.
Today, the port
enjoys worldwide connectivity
with every major port in the
world. It is served by direct
calls mounted by an international
list of blue-chip main line
operators, complemented by an
extensive feeder network with
Asean ports and ports in the
Indian sub continent.
In mid 2000,
Westport formed a strategic
alliance with Hutchison Port
Holdings, the world's largest
independently owned port operator.
This partnership has given Westport
access to technology, IT systems
and productivity ratios with
other Hutchison ports around
the world like Hong Kong, in
mainland China, Rotterdam, the
United Kingdom, in Asean and
the Caribbean. |
