TODAY’S fast pace of life makes it hard for many workers to find time for exercise. A gymnasium at the workplace can be the solution to this problem.
One such workplace is the Klang Multi Terminal Sdn Bhd office where the company has provided workers with a gymnasium at the ground floor of the Tower Block administration building in Pulau Indah, Port Klang.
The RM400000, gym is well -equipped with a complete range of exercise machines such as multistations, treadmills, upright bicycles, cross trainer, counter balance Smith machine, flat bench, incline and decline bench, adjustable decline bench and dumbbells.
Special workout programmes have been designed to suit the nature of the various occupations at the port.
Gym instructor Sahimi Daud said the exercises were designed for workers to reduce the incidence of muscle fatigue.
“For the crane operators we focus on back strengthening exercises while prime mover operators will find the leg strengthening useful,” said Sahimi who won the title of “Mr Sukma 2000” title while representing Kuala Lumpur.
The gym also helps with the rehabilitation of employees who return to work after a prolonged medical leave due to a specific physical or health conditions.
The Westport Resource Centre, located at the sixth floor of the Tower Block administration building, is another facility provided for the 2,100 workers in the company.
The resource centre is the brainchild of Westport’s executive chairman Tan Sri G. Gnanalingam. It is equipped with an audio lab for improving English, six multimedia computers and over 500 reference books and magazines.
Gnanalingam contributed most of the books, which cover a wide variety of subjects, from his personal collection.
The centre conducts a few computer-based training programmes in Effective Communication and Public Speaking and will be adding other self-learning modules.
Westport senior marketing manager Bob Lee said the centre provided Microsoft Office training for staff employed as secretaries.
Lee said: “For some, the resource centre enables them to satisfy their reading habits while others use it to do research for academic or professional qualifications.”
Lee added that there were plans to increase the facilities at the centre. |
