WESTPORT’S regional training centre (RTC), set up three years ago, has received favourable support from other Malaysian port operators.
The centre, which comes under the Security and Fire Section of Westport, has conducted numerous courses to ensure that Malaysian ports have competent staff in the security department.
Senior manager and Westport Fire, Security and Safety head Mahat Tumin said the centre has the full cooperation of the police, the Klang Port Authority and other relevant government agencies.
“Westport is lucky in terms of security because it is situated on an island and is a distance away from town centres and neighbouring countries, which makes penetration of intruders by land difficult.
“However, we cannot take security for granted and must always remain vigilant. This is why the RTC is important in ensuring that we have competent security staff personnel,” he said in a statement released in Kuala Lumpur.
The RTC has qualified instructors and is equipped with adequate training facilities.
“Exchange of information and discussions are held to address issues of security and other related matters that have bilateral interests among all parties,” said Mahat |
