WESTPORT has extended its security training to include fire rescue, surveillance and intelligence, scuba diving, combating crime and anti-terrorism, among others.
If a fire breaks out in the port, our staff must be experienced to deal with it,” said Westport head of fire, security and safety Mahat Tumin at a basic course in police assistance graduation last week, where 13 recruits who specialised in fire rescue, police assistance and scuba diving, received their certificates.
“To make sure we are up to par with the latest security measures, such as the ISPS Code, we need challenges to improve or change existing policies.”
Westport, which has become the main training centre for port security in the country since 1996, spends RM80,000 a year on security training.
“Safety has always been our priority, and we want to ensure that we have the best people to combat crime and terrorism, and can handle any crisis,” he said. |
