Westport Run draws 800 By FREDERICK FERNANDEZ
 

ALMOST 800 people took part in the Westport Run, which was flagged off at the main entrance of the Tower Block in Pulau Indah recently.

It was the best turnout since the run was introduced in 1999. The theme for this year’s event was “Fun and Healthy Run”.

The run was flagged off at 7.30am by Abdul Malik Rahman, the outgoing head of corporate services of Kelang Multi Terminal Sdn Bhd.

The participants, who paid a nominal fee of RM5 to register for the run, received a round neck Westport T-shirt.

An in-house band entertained the crowd after the run. A total of 20 hampers were given away during the lucky draw.

The run had three categories – men’s veteran (40 years and above), women’s Open for the 6km route and men’s senior (aged below 40) for the 10km route. There were also separate categories for Westport staff and the public.

Yap Chin Huat won the men’s veteran while Rahim Samiun finished first in the category for Westport staff.The men’s senior category was won by M. Arumugam while M.S. Ravi won the race for Westport staff. The women’s open category was won by Anita while Yeap Tze Ping finished first among the Westport staff. The winners in each category received RM300 and a medal.

The event was supported by the Klang Port Authority, police, Malaysia Red Crescent Society and the Klang Amateur Athletics Association.
