The US destroyer USS Cushing DD 985 was at Westport here for a four-day goodwill visit.
The ship's crew took part in community projects, including cleaning up a shelter home on Old Klang Road; Kuala Lumpur.
The USS Cushing, commissioned on Sept 21,1979, is the 23rd Spruance- Class destroyer to be designed and built by the Ingalls shipbuilding division of Litton Industries in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The battleship carries 27 officers and 330 personnel.
Based in Yokosuka, Japan, the ship is assigned to the Commander of Destroyer Squandron Fifteen. It is equipped with two Seahawk aircraft and sophisticated armaments such as MK46 torpedoes, Harpoon missiles launchers, a Sea Sparrow launcher; and a Rolling Airframes Missiles system. |
