Westport Malaysia employee Rahim Samiun finished first in the men's veteran category for Westport staff during the Westport Run 2004 held last Saturday while C. Krishnansamy proved he was the best in the men's open veteran category.
The top place in the men's open senior category went to H. Jaibalan while M.S. Ravi won the men's senior category for Westport staff for the second consecutive year.The top spot in the women's open category went to M. Vallu while Yeap Tze Ping once again finished first in the Westport female staff category. Winners in all categories received a medal, RM300 and a hamper each.
This year's event, on the theme "Westport's 10th Glorious Run", was in conjunction with Westport's 10th anniversary.The run was flagged off at the main entrance of the Tower Block Westport in Pulau Indah at 7.30am by Kelang Multi Terminal executive director Ahmayuddin Ahmad.An in-house band entertained the crowd after the run at the Westport Business Centre. There was also a lucky draw offering 20 hampers.
Westport Sports and Recreational Club chairman Mej (Rtd) V.Manisegaran said this year's run saw the participation of several national runners."The person behind this annual event is Westport executive chairman Tan Sri G. Gnanalingam, who believes that sports and recreational activities play a vital role in creating a productive attitude and quality work performance among employees," said Manisegaran.
This year's run was supported by the police, Malaysian Red Crescent Society and the Klang Amateur Athletics Association.The 10km run had three categories - men's veteran (for those aged 40 and above), women's open (6km route) and men's senior (for those below 40).There were separate categories for Westport staff and the public. More, than 650 people took part in this year's run.
